Katie Rose Hejtmanek

Katie Rose is a cultural anthropologist and associate professor of anthropology and archaeology at Brooklyn College, City University of New York. She conducts ethnographic research on CrossFit and strength sports. Katie Rose is interested in understanding and explaining the cultural reasons and impacts of the rise in functional fitness, strength building, and community fitness in the United States and beyond. She is currently working on a book based on this research. Katie Rose has been an avid athlete throughout her life. She is currently competing in the sprints in track and field and Olympic weightlifting, qualifying for USA Weightlifting Masters Nationals 2018 in her first meet.
