He holds his masters degree in Nutrition and Nutraceutical science, specializing in ageing and the budding philosophy of lifestyle medicine. he is currently working on ways to increase scientific literacy in the general public and how to interpret claims made in the pop media.”

She competed in track and field throughout her time there and is still training and competing as she continues her studies in naturopathic medicine. Fiona loves delicious, healthy food and has a passion for preventative medicine and exercise for optimal health and aging.”

Julia C. Basso

“Julia C. Basso, PhD is a post-doctoral research fellow in the Suzuki Laboratory (www.suzukilab.com) at the Center for Neural Science at New York University. As a neuroscientist and dancer, she is interested in the body’s ability to shape the brain. During her graduate years at Rutgers University, under the mentorship of Dr. Joan I. Morrell, she discovered that distinct regions within the reward circuitry of the brain help regulate the motivation for voluntary wheel running in the rodent. For her post-doctoral work, she is studying how exercise affects learning, memory, cognition, and mood from a behavioral, electrophysiological, and genetic perspective in humans. Collectively, this work is beginning to reveal that exercise has a bi-directional relationship on the brain. Future research interests lie in understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying the cognitive benefits of exercise on the brain. Additionally, she is interested in exploring the mechanisms supporting exercise amotivation, why certain individuals are more inclined to exercise than others, and how we can get people more motivated to engage in this healthy behavior.”

Virginia Davies

“Forever Fit Science was founded by Virginia Davies who took up sprinting in her fifties along with personal trainer Grayson Fertig. Virginia came to the realization that while she considered herself to be active and healthy, she wasn’t sure if she had the ability to run around and play with her grandchildren. She started researching high intensity training (or sprint training) and became passionate about the benefits of this type of exercise. The initiative “Forever Fit Science” was developed in order to start the conversation of the benefits of this type of training (particularly in aging adults).
Dr. Sarah West

“Dr. Sarah West is an Assistant Professor of Kinesiology at Trent University in Peterborough Ontario, and an Adjunct Scientist at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto Ontario. Her research interests include examining exercise and bone health in various populations (both pediatric and adult), including in those with chronic disease. She is very excited to be part of the Fast Twitch Grandma group and initiative.”

“Grayson’s life has been spent honing excellence in the physical space. He started playing hockey at age two and over his lifetime continued to excel in sports. During his time at Middlebury College he was a two-sport athlete, and this experience led him to spend seven years on the U.S. National Bobsled Team. As a bobsled pilot, Grayson learned to lead with precision. In this role, he analyzed and improved his team’s performance for maximum efficiency and safety. As a certified personal trainer, Grayson relies on this leadership experience to inform his assessment and planning for each individual client.

Grayson seeks to humanize the personal training process and help you make the paradigm shifts needed to care for yourself in a way that feels good. Over the last 15 years, he’s been entrusted by many because of his effective balance of trust, challenge and support.
